The active ingredients of the Nerve Balm include:
- a proprietary, unique blend of natural and herbal ingredients used traditionally in Eastern, Ayurvedic, and Western herbal and naturopathic medicine:
- magnesium glycinate which blocks glutamate transmission, the main neurotransmitter of pain
- GABA, the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter for pain
- vinpocetine, a compound that blocks pain transmission along peripheral nerve fibers
- multiple compounds with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects as well as pain reducing properties including sesame seed oil, aloe vera, alpha lipoic acid and four essential oils of peppermint, rosemary, lavender and clove.
- Two Western and two ayurvedic herbs used for millennia with a number of important properties for the nervous system, including restoration of nerve function, pain reduction, as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. These herbs include St. John’s Wort, Lion’s mane mushroom, Bacopa and Shankpushpi.
Directions for use:
- Best practice: Apply to painful area before pain occurs as a preventive, 2 to 3 times/day. The rich cream is very effective. Apply a thin layer of cream to the symptomatic area. In general, applying first thing in the morning allows for 6-8 hours of effect. Reapplying at the end of that period is suggested. Rub gently into the painful areas. For sciatica, you may need to apply alongside the lumbar spine where there may be nerve entrapment as well as along the pathway of pain into the leg.
- Can apply only when pain occurs. Pain reduction generally occurs quickly, although may require 30-60 minutes due to the complex chemistry of the salve. Re-apply a second time after 5-10 minutes for greater efficacy.
- Initially, apply a thin layer of salve. Increase the amount as needed.
- A “poultice method” increases efficacy. Heat the area with a hair dryer before applying. Apply the cream then use the hair dryer to heat the area again. Then apply a wrapping like plastic wrap (Saran Wrap) to “hold” the treated area.
- When applied to feet, allow for about 5-10 minutes for feet to dry with sufficient absorption before putting on socks.
- In order to experience the benefit of nerve healing, application of the cream for several weeks up to a month or two may be necessary to reduce inflammation and allow the injured nerve to heal.
Warnings: Discontinue use if any localized adverse reaction such as irritation, redness or other allergic reaction occurs. If a burning sensation occurs, reduce the amount of cream applied to the symptomatic area. Avoid contact of the cream with eyes or mouth. Not for use with children.
